20 quick tips to improve energy efficiency in your home

  1. Install a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust heating and cooling settings.
  2. Use energy-efficient lightbulbs, such as LED or compact fluorescent.
  3. Use power strips to turn off electronics when not in use.
  4. Insulate walls, windows, and doors to prevent heat loss.
  5. Plant trees or install shading devices to block sunlight and reduce air conditioning usage.
  6. Use low-flow showerheads and faucets to reduce water usage.
  7. Install a tankless water heater for on-demand hot water.
  8. Wash clothes in cold water and only run the dishwasher and washing machine with full loads.
